The Colston’s Primary School Trust was set up last year to raise money through regular parental donations and from external sources. It has already raised significant funds towards the recently completed redevelopment of the school’s ICT Suite.
The aim of the Trust is to promote the:
“…education, personal development, emotional and social wellbeing of the pupils at the school through participation in sports, social activities, arts, crafts, drama, dance, music and the performing arts; improving and enhancing the school facilities, buildings, playground and general environment; providing additional school resources, equipment, information technology, musical instruments and learning materials for the benefit of the School and all who use it.”
The five trustees are two governors, two PTAF nominees & the head teacher.
The Trust exists to enhance the school experience, not to replace core funding. The school budget remains balanced and key priorities are met. However the budget does not fund everything that the children, staff, parents and governors would like. The Trust will help provide those extras that we all want to see.
The Trust is tax efficient - your contribution will be increased by gift aid if you pay income tax. If you donate £8.20 the Trust receives £10 and, if you pay tax at 40%, you get further relief so that your donation costs you only £6.20.
The Trustees’ role is to co-ordinate fundraising and to consider funding requests from pupils, from the school council, parents and teachers that meet the aims. They will know about the school budget, the governor’s plans for capital spending and PTAF fund raising and they will be able to consult pupils, parents & staff to make informed and consistent decisions. We believe that the Trust is the most effective way to raise funds for larger projects over longer time periods. They will communicate regularly with donors through the school website & newsletter (and by e-mail on request) providing regular minutes and detailed accounts.
