Colston's Primary School A Co-operative Academy

Celebrating Diversity, Learning Together

CAPS aims to provide a secure, happy and interesting environment for children aged 5 – 11+  of working parents/guardians.

General Information

The scheme is affiliated to the Bristol Association of Neighbourhood Daycare (BAND) and is staffed by adult play workers and sixth formers.  It is run by an unpaid committee of parents/guardians and is non-profit making.

When

The scheme runs from Monday to Friday of school terms (except in-service training days) from 15:30 until 17:30.

Where

The basement of No. 16 (just down the stairs opposite the school office).  Children also have use of the playground and playground equipment (under adult supervision).

Infants are collected from their teachers at the end of the school day and Juniors make their own way to the CAPS area.

What happens

Refreshments (e.g. squash and biscuit) are provided at the start of the session with drinks available at any time.  Children then take part in free play or adult-led activities.

Bookings

Registrations are taken in July (except for children joining the school mid-year).  The waiting list is constantly updated and places are allocated according to the following criteria:

  1. Children have to attend Colston’s Primary School.
  2. Children already in the scheme have first choice of available places.
  3. Siblings of children already at CAPS have priority over other non-users.
  4. Special consideration will be given to children in situations of social or financial stress.

Parents/guardians who would like their child/ren to be considered should write to the Allocations Officer, via CAPS box in the School Office.

NB  CAPS play workers cannot make decisions on place allocations.

Fees

Current fees (academic year 2016/2017) are £7.00 per session per child.

There is an annual registration fee of £10 for each child using the scheme.

All sessions must be paid for in advance, preferably by cheque (made payable to CAPS).

Rules

Teachers of infant children should be informed of the days the child is attending CAPS.

If your child is ill please inform CAPS: either via CAPS box in the School Office, or leave a message with the School Secretary (0117 377 2610), or phone CAPS direct line (0117 924 6193).  NB  Our phone is located in CAPS kitchen, and is available 15:30 – 17:30, term-time only.

Planned absences from CAPS should be notified in writing via CAPS box.

No child will be allowed home unaccompanied.

All children should be collected by 17:30 at the latest.  A penalty fee of £5 will be requested from parents who fail to collect their child/ren by 17:30.

CAPS requires 28 days notice if your child will be leaving the scheme.
