School Vision Statement Refresh Project Update

A redraft of the school vision statement has been drawn up and is currently going through the final approval processes with all stakeholders - pupils, staff, co-operative forum and governors who are due to approve the final statement at their Full Governing Body meeting on Monday July 10th 2017 after which it will be unveiled to one and all.

School Name Consultation

As promised this is now 'live'. We look forward to hearing everybody's views on this important topic. Consultation meetings are set to take place between 19th and 30th June, a follow up survey published on 3rd July and the consultation will stay open until Friday 21st October 2017. Thank you in advance for taking a bit of time to think about this and letting us know your thoughts.

Governor Elections

In addition to welcoming our newly elected parent governor, Sally Reardon, onto the governing body, we are also very pleased to have Niklas Serning and Emma Gledhill elected as co-opted governors as of June 13th 2017. Niklas stood for parent governor, came a very close second to Sally in the elections, and brings skills and experience in the field of children's wellbeing as a child psychologist, from which we felt the school would benefit very much. Emma Gledhill is a former parent of Colston's Primary, her two children now embroiled in the heady world of secondary school. She was a governor and Chair of Finance here previously, is a very experienced accountant, and has very kindly offered to come back into a governing role here with a specific remit to oversee financial matters, filling the place of the brilliant Bronwen Wright who had to step down as our main financial expert due to increased work commitments.

School Vision Statement Refresh Project Update
Many thanks to everybody who took part in the school vision refresh survey for parents and carers. Encouraging response of just over 20% from the parent/carer body of 500ish families - pretty good going when people are so busy. Take a look at the summary findings of parents/carers responses here:
Interesting, helpful results to inform the final 'refresh' along with summary findings from consultations with staff, Co-op forum and pupils.
The final vision/mission statement will be unveiled at the beginning of Term 6. Clarity over the school's vision is key to all we do as governors. As the school grows, changes and evolves in terms of intake, parent/carer body, teaching staff and governing body, regular reviews in consultation with stakeholders is really important. And especially in view of our Co-operative status and values. So, many thanks again for your input. Much appreciated.
School Name Consultation
Governors have agreed to carry out a consultation over whether to change the school's name or not. The Co-op Forum made a formal request to governors for such a consultation, and their request coincides with the governors' natural timeline for reviewing the school name. A sub-group of governors are working on the management of the consultation process. More details to follow after half term. Watch this space.
Parent Governor Elections
Many thanks to Niklas Serning and Sally Reardon for their nominations. Ballot boxes close at 2.30pm on Friday 26th May 2017 - we will probably be counting the votes as you read this letter. Either candidate would be a fantastic asset to our governing body but there is currently only one 'parent' spot ... Watch this space for the results, to be published after half term.
Mrs Randall front runner in Bristol Post Teaching Awards
Have you seen this lovely Bristol Post article about Jacqueline Randall? Thanks to long-time Colston's governor and parent, Nick Woodroffe, for suggesting Jackie as the candidate we should nominate as a governing group. Immediate and unanimous agreement followed. And so wonderful that so many other parents/carers, children and colleagues felt the same way ... and strongly enough to wrestle with the confusing website to get their nominations in! We all know she should win outright ... Fingers crossed the judges make the right decision. Again, watch this space for further announcements.
If you'd like to be in contact with the governing body over any of these items or anything else, please write to Our Clerk, Leanne Sowersby, administers and disseminates emails received at this address.
Happy Half Term Holidays from The School Governors
