Zebras After School Club
Zebras is an OFSTED-registered, inclusive, not-for-profit parent-run scheme providing a high standard of after-school care for children aged 4 - 11.
When does it run?
Monday to Friday, whenever Colston's is running, sessions end at 5.45pm.
Who runs it?
Zebras is managed by a voluntary committee of parents who oversee recruitment of staff, finances and matters of policy. The day-to-day running is managed by a qualified Playleader supported by a staff of Deputy Playleaders and Playworkers.
Where is it?
The scheme is based in the lower dining hall of Cotham School (about 300m from Colston's Primary). KS1 children are collected by Playworkers from their classrooms. Children line up in the playground and are led as a group (staff : child ratio 1:5) to Cotham School. Activities are run in the hall itself as well as outside in the grounds of Cotham School.
What happens there?
Zebras is a child-centred organisation offering a wide range of free-play and adult-led activities based around different themes. Children are involved in planning, making rules, solving problems and the day-to-day running of Zebras. Activities include:
Arts and crafts
Games console
Pool table
Dance
Woodwork
Cooking
Drama
Outside play (daily)
Children can also relax or read in the Quiet Area.
Tea is provided at 4.30pm with a substantial snack of sandwiches / rolls / pitta bread (or similar) with a choice of healthy fillings, fresh fruit, dried fruit and/or nuts and a selection of salad. Water, juice and milk are available to drink. Special diets and alternatives are available.
A few times each year, Zebras runs themed social evenings, where the children can give performances and showcase different activities.
What does it cost?
The cost per session is £7.30 for the first child in any family and £6.80 for siblings. Fees are payable at the start of each term (in the six-term school year). Childcare vouchers are accepted.
What's the commitment?
To make the scheme manageable, 28 days notice is required when leaving Zebras and you will need to define in advance the days of the week your child(ren) will be attending. Some flexibility is available.
Any provision for children with impairments?
Zebras are actively working towards making the play provision accessible to all. If you would like to find out more and/or discuss your child's needs, please contact us at the number below.
How do I find out more?
Contact the Playleader Lyn Collins on: 07759 785 014 with any questions or to arrange a visit.
Getting involved
The committee actively encourages and welcomes the participation of parents and carers. The workload is manageable and the more that help, the easier it becomes. You will be required to undergo CRB checking.
