Here is an outline of the children's work for this term:
Literacy: All children will take part in a daily literacy lesson, reading and writing a wide range of texts from various fiction and non-fiction genres. We aim to hear every child read as part of a group or on an individual basis once a week. Reading at home will continue to contribute significantly to children's progress.
Numeracy: The children are set in three Numeracy groups five days per week. Having three smaller groups rather than two larger groups allows children to receive more personalised attention. We follow the National Numeracy Framework covering all the strands of mathematics. The children will continue to improve the speed and accuracy of their Times Tables Challenge as good times-table knowledge underpins so many aspects of mathematics.
Science: In Science lessons the children will learn about light, separating mixtures and forces. We will then commence our programme of revision.
ICT: The children are timetabled for lessons in the ICT suite every week. They will be using spreadsheet software to calculate answers to mathematical problems. They also use the suite to consolidate mathematical and scientific knowledge and skills.
Art: This term the children will produce work on landscapes which will include a local field trip. They will also study the work of the St. Ives artist, Alfred Wallis. During this term the children will continue to take their turn to work with resident artist Budgie Summers, producing work inspired by the artist-architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
Music: The children will work with the specialist music teacher from Cotham School, working towards the Spring showcase performance.
Games and P.E.: The focus for Games this term is football. In dance, they will work with the specialist teacher from Cotham School to produce a performance piece for the Spring showcase. The children will continue to have specialist coaching in badminton and swimming. (Again alternating on a half-termly basis.)
P.S.H.M.E.: Our topics in P.S.H.E. include Going for Goals and Good to be me. We also study a drugs education unit.
Special Events: All children will have the opportunity to participate with other local schools in the Showcase Performance at Cotham School.
