Reception - Summer (Terms 5 & 6)

General Overview of the Foundation Stage

 

There are six areas of learning as part of the Foundation Stage.  They are:

 

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

- Developing independence and confidence. 

- Recognising feelings and needs in ones self and others. 

- Learning to be part of a larger group and interacting appropriately. 

- Learning to concentrate and share.

 

Communication, Literacy and Language

- Learning to listen and understand. 

- Communicate with one another in different situations. 

- Developing skills in interacting, talking, listening, reading and writing.

 

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

- A love of discovery. 

- Learning about the world around us throughout hands on experience and the process of investigation. 

- Finding out about people, places and different cultures.

 

Physical Development

- Learning how to be active and interactive. 

- Improving balance, control, spatial awareness and coordination. 

- Developing fine motor skills when handling equipment.

 

Problem solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

- Finding out about space and shape, quantity, numbers, measures, comparing. 

- Learning the language of number e.g. size, length, weight, more than, less than etc.

 

Creative Development

- Using different media to explore and develop ideas. 

- Communicate using colour, shape, sound, texture, movement and story telling.

- To express thoughts and feeling through the use of music, movement, dance and imaginative role play.

 

Reception: Summer

 

Communication, Literacy and Language

- Writing for different purposes.

- To hold a pencil effectively and to form recognisable letters.

- To further develop reading skills.

- To begin and continue to blend and segment simple words.

- To enjoy and use written and spoken language successfully in their play.

 

Problem Solving, Reasoning and numeracy

- To use language related to measures.

- To use developing mathematical ideas and methods to solve practical problems.

- To use everyday words to describe position.

- To use language to describe 2D and 3D shapes.

 

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

- To explore and investigate growth and change.

- Find out about and identify some features of living things.

- To develop ideas and knowledge about own and other cultures.

- To construct with a purpose in mind.

 

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

- To understand and manage the feelings associated with change.

- To understand and manage the feelings associated with an experience we all need to cope with.

- To recognise and understand that people have different needs and views which need to be treated with respect.

- consider the consequences of their word and actions for themselves and others

 

Creative Development

- To express thoughts and feelings through the use of music, movement, dance and imaginative role play.

- Explore colour, texture, shape, form and space in two or three dimensions.

 

Physical Development

- Developing throwing and catching skills.

- Develop general ball skills.

- Team games.

- Recognise the changes that happen to their bodies when they are active.
