Reception - Autumn (Terms 1 & 2)
General Overview of the Foundation Stage
There are six areas of learning as part of the Foundation Stage. They are:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Developing independence and confidence.
- Recognising feelings and needs in ones self and others.
- Learning to be part of a larger group and interacting appropriately.
- Learning to concentrate and share.
Communication, Literacy and Language
- Learning to listen and understand.
- Communicate with one another in different situations.
- Developing skills in interacting, talking, listening, reading and writing.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- A love of discovery.
- Learning about the world around us throughout hands on experience and the process of investigation.
- Finding out about people, places and different cultures.
Physical Development
- Learning how to be active and interactive.
- Improving balance, control, spatial awareness and coordination.
- Developing fine motor skills when handling equipment.
Problem solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
- Finding out about space and shape, quantity, numbers, measures, comparing.
- Learning the language of number e.g. size, length, weight, more than, less than etc.
Creative Development
- Using different media to explore and develop ideas.
- Communicate using colour, shape, sound, texture, movement and story telling.
- To express thoughts and feeling through the use of music, movement, dance and imaginative role play.
Reception: Autumn
Communication, Literacy and language:
- Assigning a meaning to their mark making.
- Rhyming and alliteration.
- To know print conveys meaning.
- To be motivated to share writing.
- Interact with others, negotiating plans and activities and taking turns in conversations.
Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
- To say and use number names in order in familiar contexts.
- Count reliably up to 10 objects.
- Recognise numerals 1 ???????? 9.
- Talk about, recognise and recreate simple patterns.
- To name and identify 2D shapes.
Knowledge and understanding of the world
- to talk about what is seen and what is happening.
- to construct with a purpose in mind.
- show interest in the lives of people familiar to them.
- to show interest in ICT.
Personal, Social Emotional Development
- to separate from main carer.
- to form good relationships with adults and peers.
- to manage own personal hygiene.
- be confident to try new activities.
- continue to be interested, excited and motivated to learn.
- to understand what is right, wrong and why.
- to be able to work as part of a group or class, understanding that their needs to be agreed values and codes of behaviour.
Creative Development
- explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through media.
- to sing simple songs from memory.
- to respond to music.
- explore colour, texture and shape.
- to play alongside other children who are engaged in the same theme.
- to use available resources as props in their play.
Physical Development
- Show awareness of space of themselves and of others.
- To improve the quality of their movements.
- Experiment with different ways of moving.
- To respond to instructions.
- To develop hand to eye coordination.
