Colston's Primary School

About Colston's Primary: Introduction

At Colston's Primary School we offer one of the most exciting and diverse learning communities in the City of Bristol. Our pupils' heritage spans six continents and we have children from many countries and cultures. All the world's great religions are represented in our school community. We are proud of this and celebrate it daily.

Colston's Primary School is also a multi-lingual school and this is reflected in our teaching and learning. A large part of our curriculum (Geography, History, Religious Education, Art, Music and Citizenship) has a global dimension. Children are actively encouraged to look beyond the classroom and the school, to extend their learning. We continue to develop our twinning arrangements with schools in other countries and our regular "theme" weeks focus on different parts of the world, extending our learning with parents, visitors, performers and artists.

Whilst always maintaining our high academic standards, we believe that it is the Arts that are at the heart of our school. Children have opportunities to learn, achieve and perform to very high standards in Music, Drama and Dance. Concerts and performances are a regular highlight of school life.

We offer an extensive range of physical activity and sporting opportunities. Children from Year 3 onwards swim regularly and we have arrangements for professional coaching in Tennis and Badminton as part of the curriculum. We also offer Netball, Football, Dance and Drama. The two school camps in Year 5 and Year 6 provide opportunities for an extensive range of outdoor pursuits.

A distinctive feature of our school is "wrap-around care". School opens at 8am with Breakfast Club and we have two After-school Clubs that cater for families with working parents. We also host a play scheme that operates during the main school holidays.
