Colston's Primary School A Co-operative Academy

Celebrating Diversity, Learning Together

Share your memories for the 70th Anniversary

2017-18 is the school's 70th academic year as a state primary. Ex-pupils, staff, governors and parents are warmly invited to take part in the celebratory projects to mark this milestone.

Were you a pupil during the last 70 years? Did you teach here? Were you a member of staff in any capacity? A parent or grandparent?

You are the people who have made up the rich fabric of the school's history over the past 70 years. Current pupils and staff are keen to hear your stories.

The children are creating a timeline of the school’s history since its beginning in 1947. And they’d like to illustrate it with memories from ex-pupils, staff, governors and parents.

There is now a Heritage Schools funded project to help children explore our local heritage; part of the plan is to inform the children via accounts from ex-pupils and staff. This can be done either digitally or in person or both.

As part of these projects we are hoping to get in touch with as many alumni as possible. Could this be you? Please do be in touch if so.

The resultant collection of memorabilia will form part of an exhibition timeline around the walls of the school hall as well as a digital timeline displayed on the school website. These timelines will evolve over the year and form a key exhibit during our anniversary festival in the summer term - details to be confirmed

A note about the school's decision to change its name

You may have heard that the school is set to change its name for September 2018.

So, part of our 70th anniversary year will be spent choosing a new name together. We'd love input from alumni on this. A brief for choosing a new name is being drawn up and will be circulated for input from our community soon.

Governors are mindful that a name change may not be wholly popular with some alumni for a variety of understandable reasons, but hope you can get behind the democratic, fair collective decision that has been made this year. A school is so much more than its name. It is the people, the experiences, the memories that make it special. And that is what we are marking in our timeline - as well as the milestone at 70 to choose a new name for our time and looking to the future. This does not mean the name will be buried or forgotten. It is forever part of the school's history and heritage as the name it went by for its first 70 years. The reasons for this together with the reasons for changing in 2018 will form part of its history as its journey continues on through the decades ...
